Zoo
I began the Zoo series with a visit with artist Alli Sharma to London Zoo, as part of a project to make work about the subject, inspired by an Andrew Sachs interview on Radio 4 about his boyhood fascination with Zoo's, at first in Berlin and then as a Jewish refugee in London. His favourite animal was the Tapir. Maybe a good title for this project could have been in search of the Tapir, as I never saw it at the Zoo. It was probably sleeping, and because of this I decided to concentrate the series on the Zoo buildings and cages. The paintings were shown at The Meter Room in Coventry in a group show I curated in a show called Zoo.
